End of Auction for Frequencies in the 3.4 – 3.8 GHz Band

255 MHz were assigned in the auction for the rights of use of the radio frequencies in the 3410-3600 MHz and 3600-3800 MHz bands, by 65% more than currently licensed. In these bands, the winning bidders 2K Telecom S.R.L., Orange Romania S.A., RCS&RDS S.A., The National Radiocommunications Company and Vodafone Romania S.A. will be able to provide, on a national level, among others, broadband wireless data transmission and internet access services.
2K Telecom S.R.L. won 2 paired 2x5 MHz blocks in the 3410-3600 MHz band, for a licence fee of EUR 740,100.
Orange Romania S.A. won 5 paired 2x5 MHz blocks in the 3410-3600 MHz band and 9 unpaired 5 MHz blocks in the 3600-3800 MHz band. For the spectrum resources acquired in the auction, Orange Romania S.A. must pay a licence fee of EUR 3,924,000.
RCS&RDS, which had not had a licence in the 3.4 – 3.8 GHz, was awarded 10 unpaired 5 MHz blocks in the 3600-3800 MHz band, for a licence fee of EUR 1,880,000.
The National Radiocommunications Company won 10 unpaired 5 MHz blocks in the 3600-3800 MHz band. For these spectrum resources, the National Radiocommunications Company will pay a licence fee of EUR 1,850,001.
Vodafone Romania S.A. was awarded 4 paired 2x5 MHz blocks in the 3410-3600 MHz band, for which it will pay a licence fee of EUR 1,730,000.
The licence fees, reaching a total of EUR 10,124,101, are to be paid by 2 December 2015, and the new rights of use of the radio spectrum will enter into force on 1 January 2016, for a 10-year period.
16 paired 2x5 MHz blocks allocated at a national level in the 3.4 – 3.6 GHz band were auctioned out, 11 of which were awarded in the selection procedure. Furthermore, 36 unpaired 5 MHz blocks allocated at a national level in the 3.6 – 3.8 GHz band went under the hammer, 29 of which were awarded.
