What are the steps for cancelling a porting request
12.12.2024
Number portability ensures the right of users to change their network while keeping their phone number. Within this process, there are situations in which the users decide to cancel the porting, either because they receive a better offer or due to costs associated with terminating the current contract. The porting process may be cancelled only if certain conditions are met.
Porting cancellation
Porting cancellation request must be submitted to the provider where the porting request was initially submitted (acceptor provider). The standard form for the cancellation of porting process can be obtained here or directly from the acceptor provider. If the porting request has been submitted by means of distance communication, the cancellation request may be submitted to the acceptor provider in a similar manner.
The cancellation application must be submitted no later than 24 hours before the time initially agreed for completing the porting process. Only working days are taken into account in setting the deadline for the porting time, respectively the porting cancellation term.
After receiving the cancellation request, the provider must confirm its receipt and processing. Users must request and keep proof of receipt and acceptance of the porting cancellation request by the provider.
Meeting the deadline of 24 hours before the scheduled porting date (only one business day) is essential for canceling the port. Failure to comply with this deadline usually leads to the processing of the porting request, and a completed porting process can no longer be canceled. ANCOM cannot dispose the cancellation of a porting process because these steps must be carried out only by the parties involved in this process (provider, acceptor and user).
ANCOM recommandations
Before porting a telephone number, users are advised to:
- carefully check the offers on the market so that they can choose the best offer;
- check the current contractual conditions to avoid paying possible penalties for early termination. Porting does not cancel out such costs;
- ensure that they have proof of receipt within the legal deadline, by the acceptor provider, of the cancellation request in case they no longer wish to complete the porting process.
Complaint-related info
In case of any problems encountered during the porting process, users should first contact the providers to whose network they intend to port their numbers (acceptor provider). In the event that the reported issues are not resolved or clarified by the providers, users can contact ANCOM here.
