Romania and Qatar sign Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of electronic communications

Today, 20 May 2024, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) – on behalf of Romania, and the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) – on behalf of the State of Qatar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of electronic communications. The MoU reflects the two parties’ recognition of the importance of cooperation in the field of electronic communications and establishes a solid partnership in respect of electronic communications policies.
The (MoU) has been signed by Mr. Valeriu Stefan ZGONEA, President of ANCOM, and by Eng. Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, in the presence of HE Marcel Ciolacu, Prime Minister of Romania.Â
The main objective of this MoU is to establish the necessary framework for cooperation and exchange of information between the two Authorities, in accordance with their respective attributions regarding the regulation and supervision of activities in the electronic communications sector. Particular attention will be paid to policies relating to the regulation of satellite communications, including monitoring of satellite frequencies. Cooperation will take different forms, such as joint actions and positions within the international organizations in which the two institutions are members, exchanges of experience and best practices, meetings, seminars, training courses and workshops.
The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) regulates the telecommunications, information technology, and postal sectors, as well as access to digital media in the State of Qatar. Qatar will host the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference in 2026, an event that Romania successfully hosted in 2022 in Bucharest.
