Romania and Japan – together for innovation and digitalization. "TechCo for a Digital Sunrise" conference in Cluj-Napoca

Today, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) organizes the  conference "TechCo for a Digital Sunrise", aimed at facilitating the deep commitment of Romania and Japan in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in the fields of technology, research, development and innovation. The conference takes place in the margins of the first edition of the Romanian-Japanese Innovation Forum.

The conference agenda includes a series of topics relevant to the field of communications, from the resilience and cyber security of 5G networks, to the role of electronic communications in enhancing the development of smart communities and in supporting innovation in the telecom market, and how international cooperation has contributed to the companies' evolving towards a multinational dimension.

“ANCOM is committed to bring its contribution to strengthening the Romanian-Japanese relation in its area of expertise. I am convinced that cooperation, dialogue and coordinated efforts are the most effective means for ensuring a sustainable development for the sector we are regulating, and for delivering optimal results for the benefit of consumers and industry alike." Valeriu Zgonea, President of ANCOM, emphasized in the opening of the event.

During the plenary session, government officials and members of the Romanian Parliament, representatives of the Japanese government, as well as representatives of local authorities  stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries and explored perspectives for deepening collaboration by carrying out joint projects and initiatives, and considered the perspectives for developing smart cities.

Moreover, for strengthening the exchange of ideas and good practices, during parallel sessions, representatives of the business environment (providers, operators, equipment manufacturers, etc.) and of the academia from both countries will deliver presentations. Among them, we count the main operators and equipment manufacturers, suppliers of smart solutions  and products, representatives of the  ELI-NP project (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics) and of innovative start-ups.

The ANCOM event is organized in the margins of the Romanian-Japanese Innovation Forum and benefits from the support and involvement of Cluj-Napoca City Hall, the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization in Romania, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan, as well as of the Embassy of Japan in Romania.

The Romanian-Japanese Innovation Forum 2023 is an event organized in the context of the Romanian-Japanese Strategic Partnership established on 7 March 2023, the Joint Declaration being signed by the President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Fumio Kishida. This Strategic Partnership marks stepping up the Romanian-Japanese cooperation at the highest level and the transition to a superior stage of utilizing the bilateral potential, on three key dimensions: foreign policy and dialogue on security issues, cooperation in economic areas and in assistance for development, respectively cooperation in the fields of culture, science and technology, innovation, research and development.
